THE CLIENT

MESPAC use remote, economic, and real-time information from satellites and analyze it through the use of proprietary Artificial Intelligence algorithms to provide metocean and forecast data to blue economy stakeholders.

NEEDS & GOALS

  • Design a tool that gathers wind, wave, and other metocean data

  • Design the simplest app in the industry

  • Design a prototype to use for the first round of investment

Disrupt the status-quo

Disrupt the status-quo

The first thing I did was to study and define a clear product strategy and identify goals that were aligned with the company vision. At the moment, it is extremely difficult to monitor wind, waves and other metocean conditions. Current solutions use unreliable coarse data from models, or expensive and time-consuming in-situ measurements. This makes measurements and development activities slow and expensive.

MESPAC's vision is to disrupt the status-quo by offering a competitive web app that supplies metocean data comparable to in-situ campaigns taking advantage of satellite Earth Observation technologies.

From a product perspective, the biggest challenge of the MESPAC project was to design a metocean dashboard that would simplify the user experience as much as possible, while also educating users on the reliability of this new technology (i.e. metadata).

1

RESEARCH

To understand industry standards, user needs and the competitor landscape, a thorough market and user research was conducted (SWOT analysis, competitor UX/UI analysis, stakeholder interviews)

2

DEFINE

With goals and research insights in mind, user personas and user journeys were created.

A card-sorting round was also conducted to guide the IA and site map design.

3

IDEATE

Now, to the fun part!

With the goal of designing the simplest and most user-friendly app in the industry, sketches and low-fidelity wireframes were created.

4

PROTOTYPE

Following client approval and in consideration of the user needs and research conducted previously, mid-fidelity wireframes were designed. They were then animated to develop the first prototype.

5

TEST

Moderated in-person and remote usability tests were conducted on the prototype to spot pain points and frustration users may face when using the app and correct design flows.

6

IMPLEMENT

Identified the key learnings, high-fidelity wireframes and prototype were designed. A final round of A/B testing was conducted before the final hand-off to fine-tune the platform.
